DECARLO – Lightning Strikes Twice

DECARLO – Lightning Strikes Twice

This twelve-track effort by melodic rockers Decarlo, which is spearheaded by Tommy DeCarlo (Boston), came out all the way back in early 2020 and is therefore not as newsworthy as it could have been, so I will keep this review of mine ridiculously short. These guys essentially offer uplifting, good-time classic rock with instantly memorable melodies and plenty of vocal hooks.

In fact, it is not that far from what Boston are doing. Having said that, it feels predictable and too damn safe somehow. It has its moments, the musicianship is good, and the production is pretty much spot on for this particular brand of AOR/melodic rock, but other than having a positive vibe and being easy on the ear it is simply not one for the history books nor a mandatory purchase as such. Enjoyable to a certain extent but not remarkable.

Album highlight: The Foreigner-esque "Rock N’ Soul".
