DUCKWALK CHUCK – High Speed City

DUCKWALK CHUCK – High Speed City

The gritty Norwegian hard rockers Duckwalk Chuck released this album of theirs quite a while ago, so it is not exactly brand new as such, but I reckon we ought to have a closer look at it all the same, would you not agree? High-octane riffs that will pummel you to death and fiery vocals that will blow your head clean off are what we are dealing with here.

The crashing drums and thick, pulsating bass lines only help underline and emphasize the groove and swagger of the whole thing. If AC/DC, Motorhead, and Cheap Trick had a threesome, Duckwalk Chuck would be the outcome of such an unholy alliance. The tunes are utterly catchy and everything sticks in one’s memory after having spun the disc once. In that sense, there is nothing tricky or convoluted about "High Speed City", which is to say that its ten tracks all stick to the same formula and are belted out with passion and intensity.

On the other hand, there is nothing new to what Duckwalk Chuck do and you have heard it all before to some extent, but that does not change the fact that this is a charming and cool release, kind of like the perfect album to listen to when out driving (although there is a high probability that you might be pulled over for speeding if you do so). If no-frills rock ‘n’ roll with huge balls and a bluesy vibe to it is what brightens your day, "High Speed City" is the stuff.
