BORNBROKEN – Watch the World Unwind (single)

The single "Watch the World Unwind" from the Montreal thrash/groovecore creators of the excellent "The Healing Powers of Hate" picks up right where that album left off but right away I hear more similarity to Skinlab (remember them?) and much less to early Machine Head. The material is still plenty heavy and does not disappoint, the hooks, the power and the execution are still very much intact, there’s just not much in a way of progress but for the clearly upgraded sound, as indeed, the production sounds modern but still retains that characteristic BornBroken sound. The riffs are where the band could use more improvement because they do sound like a throwaway nu-metal material, you know that overused, simplistic Disturbed patent. They have a new single "A Nation of Ignorance"  up on their website which is much better, faster and has a new deathcore touch to it where they sound like All Shall Perish but definitely an improved sound, with a new vocalist to boot. Check them out if you’re into that sort of thing as they are currently recording the follow up to "Healing" slated for the early 2017 release. As for me, I have a soft spot for these guys because of what their debut helped me go through at the time so I am looking forward to the new album.
