LAIKA – Somnia

Melodic death metal after Dark Tranquillity’s heart with a touch of Dimmu Borgir for good measure. The sound is a little dry or it could be my Ford Focus stereo since factory speakers are supposedly paper. A few interesting melodies but nothing really captured my undivided attention except for clever and creative use of classical elements. To Laika’s credit, they do not serve typical melodeath riffing and structures, but there’s something missing I can’t quite put my finger on.
