DOCTOR SPEED – Face To Face
An older band playing traditional power metal from Germany, the debut album "Face To Face" from Doctor Speed is a classic tale of desire versus execution. I feel that the quartet have all the right intention to play like their heroes- Helloween, Grave Digger, Gamma Ray, etc. The problem is, songs like "The Hammer", "We Destroy" and "Great War" suffer greatly from third rate copycat riffs, substandard production values, and a whiny, unconvincing vocalist at the helm.
The average listener will be able to tell Doctor Speed isn’t close to the caliber of premiere German power metal- either in the old school or new. Back to the drawing board, as "Face To Face" leaves me scarred and bruised.
