ILLNATH – Third Act in the Theatre of Madness

ILLNATH – Third Act in the Theatre of Madness

Moving from a symphonic black metal band to one with more traditional death leanings, Danish four piece Illnath race along with this pristine sheen and give cultural lead work to keep the memorable factor on high. Dimmu Borgir meets early Children Of Bodom to these ears on material like “Scarecrow” and “Spring Will Come”- although female vocalist Mona growls and screams like her best evil male counterparts.

The doom elements within “Tree Of Life And Death” should be worth more exploration on future Illnath songwriting expeditions- as dynamic versatility will keep the band in good standing with their following. Overall I found “Third Act In The Theatre Of Madness” a tough full on experience- it’s as if the band is trying to smooth out their heavier past with new elements and the roller coaster arrangements can make for a bumpy ride.

Talent is there, so I hold out hope for this act in the future.
